As a source of water in the midst of the desert, the spring that gives Pipe Spring National Monument its name has been a site of many centuries of human history. From the Kaibab Paiute Indians that once occupied the land to the Mormon settlers that later occupied the region, the monument preserves the stories of these various groups. Take a guided tour of Windsor Castle, a fortified ranch home from the 1870s, and explore the visitor center and museum that tells the story of the local Native Americans. It's about a 15 mile drive from either Fredonia or Colorado City to this tiny monument, but the small area is rich with history and stories to tell.
Open daily Jun - Aug: daily 7:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m; Sep - May: 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Tours of Winsor Castle run every half hour from 1 hour after opening to 4:00 p.m.
